NDUCFA 2019 EAB Detection & Management Workshop – Oct. 16

NDUCFA is excited to host the EAB Detection and Management Workshop in Bismarck on Oct. 16. Using the most current information about emerald ash borer (EAB) and the experiences of neighboring infested states, presenters Charles Elhard, NDDA; Lezlee Johnson, NDFS; and Joe Zeleznik, NDSU Extension will share their expertise on the most effective EAB detection technique, how to uncover EAB in a branch sample and the best strategies for slowing the spread now (pre-infestation) and into the future. There will also be a discussion of 2019 tree pests and their management based on calls, observations and reports from the field.

EAB Cost Calculator in the TIP Tool Webinar – Oct. 22

Neighboring states are dealing with infestations of EAB. Learn how to use the EAB Cost Calculator in the North Dakota Tree Inventory/Planning Tool (TIP Tool) and create cost scenarios for managing ash trees in your community to prepare for EAB. Join us online from anywhere from noon – 1 p.m. CT. Register online. The registration deadline is Oct. 18.

 

NDUCFA 2019 Winter ID Workshop – Nov. 6

NDUCFA’s Winter ID Workshop is schedule Nov. 6 at the ND Heritage Center in Bismarck. Joe Zeleznik, NDSU Extension; Todd West, NDSU; and other guests will present methods to identify trees in the winter using visual characteristics and dichotomous keys. If weather permits, some sessions may be held outdoors. Register online or by downloading the registration form. The registration deadline is Oct. 25.

 

NDSU-NDFS Intro to Biochar Workshops – Nov. 6-9

NDSU – North Dakota Forest Service is partnering with the USDA – Natural Resources Conservation Service, USDA – Forest Service and Wilson Biochar Associates to offer a free biochar workshop in Lisbon (Nov. 6), Carrington (Nov. 7), Cavalier (Nov. 8) and Bottineau (Nov. 9). Each location will have a slightly different focus, but all will cover the basics of biochar production and potential applications. The workshops are open to everyone, FREE to attend, and lunch is provided in all except the half-day Carrington workshop.

They request that attendees register to ensure there is enough food and materials for everyone. The deadline to register is Oct. 31.
